Support Yad L'Shuv
Why Give to Yad L'Shuv? It's a simple question, yet one that has numerous answers.
Your gift will be put towards enabling us to continue providing ongoing follow-up and advocacy to baalei teshuvah (returnees to traditional Torah-based Judaism) and Geirim (converts to Torah-based Judaism) by aiding us in the hiring of two full-time and two part-time staff members at an annual salary of $25k-$30k (for the two part-time staff members) and an annual salary of $55k-$60k (for the two full-time staff members) throughout the next three years; as well as the ongoing operational costs and expenses of the organization and the costs of publicizing our services to the greater Jewish community. As such, we approximate expanding our reach between four-six times what it is now.
In the winter of 2011, when the Yad L'Shuv Foundation began, we were little more than a good idea. We began by offering advocacy to a family who converted several years ago and was running into a cadre of difficult adjustment issues related to their newfound membership within the world of Orthodox Jewry. Since then we have grown to the point that we now provide services to over fifty families throughout the United States, England, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Israel; and boast a network of sixty-four volunteers. Our primary services are the Chaver (Supportive-Friend) Program (the Chaver Program is a needs-based mentoring and support network finely tailored to individuals and families), the Advocacy Program, and the Advocacy Hotline.
The following recent events illustrate the work we do:
While there are many Jewish outreach organizations, all respectable and deserving of support,we are the first, and currently the only, organization to provide ongoing follow-up and advocacy to baalei teshuvah and geirim after their return to Torah observant practice and lifestyle. We don't simply stop with the initial intervention, rather, we do ongoing follow-up so as to ensure our recipients are recieving the quality, life-enhancing service we strive to deliver.
Unfortunately, while we are delivering services to forty-five families, we are stymied by our lack of funding. Since our inception one year ago I have managed to pay the director of the Chaver Program a part-time salary allowing her to work for us seven hours a week, while withholding from myself a proper salary at this point in time. In part, due to our tenacity and determination, despite the hardship of being underfunded we have plowed ahead and created an organization, albeit small, with both staying and growing power. (Having personally endured enormous hardships and obstacles associated with having become a baal teshuvah, I am determined to stay the course regardless of most practical considerations). However, we have reached a point in our development where we simply can't move forward the way we are positioned to without generous support. It is for this reason that I appeal to you for a financial gift. I cannot overemphasize the value of your contribution; your contribution will go along way towards enabling us to establish ourselves as a powerhouse organization in the field of second-stage Jewish outreach (i.e. follow-up), making sure that those men and women who have changed lifestyle, and often geographic location, in order to become Torah-observant Jews, are able to integrate productively and seamlessly into the Torah-observant world, thereby putting their best foot forward.
Unlike many organizations whose story has already been written and sealed, the story of Yad L'Shuv is still in its introductory paragraphs. Supporting Yad L'Shuv is more than supporting a worthy organization, its buying a piece of a new narrative. A narrative that will, with G-d's help, continue to be written for many years to come.

The following recent events illustrate the work we do:
- Advocated on behalf of a family of recent converts, who moved to Israel following their conversion, to place their seven-and-a-half year old daughter in a school in Beit Shemesh, Israel. The school was initially reluctant to accept her;
- Placed a young baal teshvuah family in Passaic, NJ with an older Chaver family in the nearby town of Fairlawn, NJ to serve as a surrogate Grandma and Grandpa to this young family. The young family was previously isolated and alone within the Torah-observant world;
- Made arangements for a convert to receive the gift of a second-hand computer after her computer stopped working to enable her to continue her employment and generate an income;
- Had a telephone conversation with a baal teshuvah who is stuck in an unsatisfying job about his options and the possiblility of continuing his secular educational path, albeit as a Torah observant Jew, so as to land a better paying, more rewarding position in his field of choice.
- Made periodic telephone outreach calls to a young baal teshuvah whose wife recently passed away leaving him to raise their four children, all under the age of ten, on his own.
